Volunteers needed for Dakota Gathering, Homecoming


The 9th annual Great Dakota Gathering and Homecoming (2012) will be held at Unity Park, East Lake Winona, Sept. 14-16. This year the event will commemorate the Dakota Conflict of 1862.

Volunteers are needed for the following areas:

Youth Education Day —  Set up the space, help the 35 presenters, and take some notes on the lessons: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in two-hour shifts.

Information/T-shirt sales  — 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and  7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in two-hour shifts.

Serving of meals — Help set up, serve the meal, check buttons, work tables, assist elders and clean up; Saturday 7 to 9 a.m. and 4:30 to 7 p.m.; Sunday 7 to 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Coca Cola Stand —  9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Clean up — Pick up garbage, and carry tables and chairs to be put in trucks; 3 p.m. Sunday.
