February S.O.U.L. trips applications due

S.O.U.L. applications for February break trips are due before Thanksgiving break in the Office of Campus Ministry.

This year, the February S.O.U.L. trips are going to Kansas City, Mo.; Cranks Creek, Ky.; Browning, Mo.; New Orleans, La.; and Camden, N.J. There is an additional trip to the Philippines after graduation in May.

Applications are available in the Office of Campus Ministry, the back of Saint Thomas More Chapel, and on the Campus Ministry bulletin boards.

Registration fees are not due until Jan. 11; scholarships are available.

Congratulations to all who participated in the first annual Heart and SOUL Row, Ride and Run Triathlon, which took place last Sunday! Thanks to your involvement, beautiful weather (besides the wind), great sponsors and amazing volunteers, more than $900 was raised to help defray the costs for future SOUL (Serving Others United in Love) trips.

SMU’s own Martin Stensing was the first person to cross the finish line, having paddled, biked and run the course in 1:25:52. “Chris 3”, consisting of Chris Kendall, Chris Dembiec and Kristen Stoneberg, finished first out of the teams with a time of 1:52:40. Overall, 32 Saint Mary’s students and employees took part in the event, of a total field of 31 individuals and nine teams.

The first Saint Mary’s Heart and SOUL Row, Ride and Run Triathlon will be held Sunday, April 29. The race will start at Lake Lodge, on East Lake in Winona, and will finish on the SMU campus.

Participants will row 2 miles, bike 14 miles and run 3.2 miles. Drawing for prizes will take place at the finish. For kayak and canoe rental information, contact the Office of Campus Ministry at Ext. 1643. Registration forms are available in the Office of Campus Ministry or online at smumn.edu/campusministry. All proceeds from the race will be used to fund future SOUL trips.
