In the Heart of the Beast production is tonight


The LaSallian Honors Program, the Department of Philosophy, and the Philosophy Club at Saint Mary's, in co-operation with the generous support of Lori and Michael Charron, dean of the School of the Arts, are proud to present In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre’s production of “A Path Home: A Story of Thich Nhat Hanh,” created and performed by Masanari Kawahara, directed by Sandy Spieler.

Hanh is an expatriate Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, teacher, author, poet and peace activist.

The performance will take place in the Damien Commons in Watters Hall today, March 19, at 7 p.m. All are welcome, and there is no fee for this event.

Alumni and friends arts event scheduled for March 28

The SMU Department of Theatre and Dance, the Friends of the School of the Arts, and the the Alumni Association will host an alumni and friends event on Saturday, March 28, featuring a performance of “A Chorus Line.” Faculty and staff are invited and welcome to attend this gathering.

From 2 to 3:30 p.m., a panel of theater majors will meet with current theatre students in the President’s Room, Toner Student Center.

At 5 p.m. a social hour and dinner will be offered in the Toner Student Center lounge, and “A Chorus Line” begins at 7:30 p.m. in Page Theatre. At 9:30 p.m., a dessert reception — with cash bar — will be held in the Presidents Room.

The cost is $35 for the dinner, performance and reception or $15 for the performance and reception.

First Friday features last-chance at art auction

This month’s First Friday is today in Room B (next to the Information Desk). Stop by for a continental breakfast and take this opportunity visit by the art gallery for the last day of the art exhibits, Images of Nature by Carol Faber and Interstices by Monta May. Today also marks the last day of the silent auction for several of the art pieces. Proceeds from this auction will benefit the
Friends of the School of the Arts.

A few unmatted/unframed photography prints by May will be added to the silent auction.

Silent art auction ends Oct. 5

Winona artist Monta May displays “Communion Circle: 1-10,” part of the dual show with Carol Faber, “Interstices” and “Images of Nature,” on display through Oct. 5 at Saint Mary’s University.



A silent auction of works by Monta May, on display in the Lillian Davis Hogan Gallery, will be open through Oct. 5, the duration of the exhibition.

Three of her works, “Red Bowl Ritual,” a canteen gourd; “Bee Garden,” and “From the Beginning,” encaustics on wood, are being auctioned. All proceeds from the auction of these works, as well as 5 percent of the sale price of May’s other exhibited works, will support arts education and programming at Saint Mary’s through the Friends of the School of the Arts.
